About me

Who am I?

I’m Lisa and I am so pleased you have found this page. I’m a HCPC Registered, Royal College of Occupational Therapists Member.

Throughout my career and my life so far, I have valued the opportunity to connect with people at different ages and stages of life, from different backgrounds and being curious about what matters to them. I think I’ve always known I’ve wanted to help people and OT has given me the professional underpinning which complements my desire to support others and guide them towards living a valued and meaningful life.

  • I have worked in the NHS in mental health and learning disability services for 15 years and prior to that in special education and autism care.

Working within staff wellbeing, chronic fatigue and currently within complex trauma has enabled me to understand what it is like to live with high stress, invisible illness, emotional overwhelm and the lasting impact of trauma. Working in a person-centred and trauma informed way provides you with a safe, effective space to explore your individual circumstances and needs. I recognise how past experiences, nervous system responses and energy limitations can shape how we function day-to day.

My work bridges psychological understanding with practical, real-life change. I understand that strategies need to fit within your life and be relevant to your individual needs. I have helped people make sense of their experiences and rebuild their daily functioning, routine, identity and confidence.

  • Training

My first degree was in Creative Expressive Therapies, using the arts to support emotional expression and healing and although I do not use this directly in my practice, it underpins my value of enabling people to express themselves and do things in ways that work best for them.

I achieved a first class honours degree in Occupational Therapy in 2017, completing placements in neurological rehabilitation, acute mental health inpatient care, palliative care and staff wellbeing.

My clinical knowledge has expanded through further training in pain management, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion Focussed Therapy, Gut-Brain connection, trauma informed practice, Nature Connectedness, Tai Chi for Health and sensory needs. I am also currently engaging in research projects, to contribute to improving societal health and social care.

  • Ethos

I am always expanding my knowledge, experience and insight, in order to support people to make sense of their difficulties and take small, but brave steps towards meaningful change. I try my best to practice what I preach by listening to my mind and my body to respond to its changing needs. Something I neglected for many years!

Outside of work, I have previously fulfilled voluntary roles in directing and coaching a sports team for 9 years. I currently volunteer for a group which connects women with outdoors and adventure. I believe that nature is one of our strongest healers. I thrive on building communities where people support one another, strive to achieve things they weren’t sure were possible and contribute to the wider societal benefits of staying healthy and well both physically and mentally.

‍I do not work with diagnoses themselves, but with you as the person experiencing what you are. Therefore, you are welcome to contact me to discuss what is currently going on for you, and we can work out where to go from there.

  • “I can't thank Lisa enough for all of the support she gave me during a very difficult period in my life. Lisa gave me the tools to focus on what was right for me when I had been neglecting my own needs for a long time, as well as teaching me the importance of being present and accepting feelings that made me feel extremely uncomfortable.”
